The Baywood Clinic Psychiatrists:

Dr Vagts

Michael Vagts, MD
Medical Director

The Baywood Clinic was started so I could practice psychiatry in a way that modern managed care would not allow. I realized several years into my outpatient practice that the reductionist approach to well-being through brief pharmacology visits was falling short for my patients. My academic and personal passions coalesced in addressing the holistic needs of my clients by integrating therapy, nutrition, exercise, and medication when necessary. At Baywood we have the luxury of time and flexibility in caring for our clients that the insurance model did not allow.

My academic background encompasses an undergraduate degree from UCLA in Physics summa cum laude, Master’s degree in Physics from UC Berkeley, MD from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. I completed my psychiatry residency at San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and have earned board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Currently, I additionally serve as the Medical Chief at San Mateo County BHRS - Central County Adult Psychiatry Clinic and Coastside Mental Health Clinic, serving the severely mentally ill and indigent population.

Prior to my current roles, I held the position of attending psychiatrist at Mills Health Center (a Sutter Hospital), working in the inpatient unit and covering the Mills Peninsula Medical Center Psychiatric Emergency Services unit. I have also served as an attending psychiatrist in a private outpatient group practice for PCPA (now Lifestance Health) and at San Mateo Medical Center, working in both the inpatient psychiatric unit and the psychiatric emergency room.

Baywood Clinic embodies my personal health transformation, achieved through a low-carbohydrate, high-fat (LCHF) ketogenic diet, evidence-based cardiovascular and resistance training regimens, and the therapeutic modalities I have found to be most efficacious in navigating the complexities of modern life.

Dr Jung

Anna Jung, MD

I earned my undergraduate degree in History from the UCLA and obtained my MD from the UC Davis School of Medicine. My psychiatry residency was completed at San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, where I had the honor of serving as Chief Resident during my final year. I am board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

My passion for understanding the unique mental health needs of older adults led me to pursue fellowship training in Geriatric Psychiatry at the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), and I am now board certified in this specialized field. In addition to my work at Baywood Clinic, I serve as an attending psychiatrist at San Mateo County BHRS - North County Adult Psychiatry Clinic.

The Baywood Clinic provides me with the opportunity to cater to a distinct patient demographic, diverging from my San Mateo County role. My focus primarily lies in serving the older adult population, employing a sophisticated blend of psychotherapy and lifestyle enhancements aimed at promoting resilience and fostering holistic well-being.
